In this video David ODell shows us how to pour your basic 16 x 12 Concrete Slab! He goes over all the necessary steps for your concrete slab to come out perfect. He illustrates you how to form the slab, put rebar in at 2ft x 2ft centers, rod it, bull float it, put joints in, edge it, use the fresno/Big Blue and broom it. We hope you find this information valuable for your next concreting project!
For those watching in Australia points to note :
1. Most of our slabs are poured onto sheets of steel reinforcing (i.e., SL72 or SL82), in this slab David has reinforcing fibres (e'g., steel fibres) within the concrete mix when it comes from the concrete plant. This is an option in Australia, talk with your batch plant or steel reinforcing supplier about it,
2. As this concrete slab is going over concrete and dirt not only is rebar required to reduce potential cracking underneath the surface hosing down the sub base (i.e., the sub surface) is a MUST. This is definitely the situation in Australia whwere the sub base is often dry during these summer months, and
3. It is extremely important as David does here to spray the fresh concrete with a curing compound or "aliphatic alcohol" to reduce the potential of plastic shrinkage cracking and other surface imperfections in your new slab once the concrete has hardened.
